Other youth ministries
Acolytes, Grades 9-12 | Registration
All youth in grades 9-12 are invited to serve at the Lord’s altar in the Ministry of the Acolyte. Rooted in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the early church, acolytes lead worship alongside lay and ordained leaders, assisting with essential tasks that enable our way of Anglican worship unfold with grace, dignity, and beauty. Acolytes serve in teams supported by a senior acolyte called a “warden.” Each team serves about once a month, successively alternating between the 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. service in addition to serving at special liturgies around Christmas, Lent, and Holy Week.
Those who wish to serve must attend one of these training sessions:
- Saturday, September 9, 9-10:45 a.m.
- Saturday, September 16, 9-10:45 a.m.
- Sunday, September 17, 1-2:30 p.m.
No prior experience is required, only a desire to serve with kindness and attentiveness.
Please register here to serve during the 2023-24 program year. If you have questions, please contact the Rev. John Jenkins.
Ushers, Grades 6-8 | Registration
All youth in grades 6-8 are invited to serve in the Ministry of the Usher. Youth Ushers greet worshippers as they arrive for the 9 am liturgy, distribute bulletins, collect and present the congregation’s offerings, and help foster a welcoming and reverential atmosphere. Ushers serve about once per month on four teams led by an adult captain, typically a parent.
Training will take place on
- Saturday, September 9, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
- Saturday, September 16, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Youth serving in outreach and mission
Outreach and mission opportunities throughout the year provide an opportunity for our youth to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the wider community and to experience the power of sacrificial acts of Christian love. In addition to special outreach events through the year for youth and families, there are a number of ways to support the work of St. Stephen’s through the parish’s weekly outreach ministries and volunteer opportunities, such as food ministries, the farmers market, with East End outreach partners, and more.
