St. Stephen's parishioners provide an annual Christmas Shop in conjunction with our long-standing outreach partners in the East End. This opportunity, held at Fairfield Court Elementary School, will be available this year not only for Fairfield families but also for those who have students at Anna Julia Cooper School.
The shop makes it possible for parents, grandparents or other caregivers to select gifts they know their youngsters will use and enjoy, based on their individual needs and interests. This approach offers a measure of dignity to the family, empowers them to make their own decisions, and allows us to serve them more effectively.
This year the shop will be open on Thursday, December 21, 2023. Please see deadlines below, and note that the dates have changed at the request of the schools.
In addition to being able to select items they know their children will use and enjoy, parents and grandparents are also able to wrap the gifts; our "shop" provides a place for them to wrap, or they may take gift wrapping supplies home with them.
Parishioners are invited to purchase items to stock the Christmas store. You may also volunteer to sort or transport items to Fairfield, help arrange the items at the shop, and assist shoppers on the day the shop is open.
Making donations: how and when
To make a donation, use this sign-up form, then deliver the items to the church.
- Sign-ups should be made by December 18. Using the form will ensure that we have the needed number of donations in various categories. Please do not purchase items until you have used the sign-up form.
- Please deliver your item(s) to St. Stephen's by December 19. You may leave them at the outreach table on the main floor of the parish house, near Palmer Hall and the elevator.
- Please do not gift-wrap your items; not only do parents and grandparents like to wrap the gifts for their children, but the idea is to allow adults to select the gifts they know their children will enjoy and use, so they will want to see what is available in the Christmas Shop.
