Memorial Gifts

There are a number of ways to honor or remember a loved one with a gift to St. Stephen’s Church.

Financial gifts made in memory of someone who has died are placed in St. Stephen’s Endowment to strengthen the ministries of this vital church for generations to come, and are a particularly fitting way to honor a friend or loved one.

Gifts of altar flowers or the vigil candle (also called an ambry candle) that remains lit in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit can be given in memory of someone who has died or in thanksgiving for a person, an occasion or celebration. Both types of gifts are acknowledged in the service bulletin on the weekend of their placement.

To dedicate the vigil candle, please contact Kitty Ball in the parish office. The suggested donation is $10, which you may make online using the button below. From that platform, select “Vigil Candle” from the dropdown menu. In the memo line, be sure to indicate the date for the memorial and the person being remembered.

St. Stephen’s needlepoint guild also offers the opportunity to dedicate a needlepointed kneeler. These exquisite cushions are attached to pews and cathedral chairs in the church. The four-phase project is now in its final phase, and several kneelers are still to be reserved, stitched, and dedicated in memory of or in thanksgiving for people you wish to honor. Each kneeler has a brass plaque bearing the name of the person honored or remembered. Read more about the needlepoint project here.

Sometimes a generous parishioner wishes to donate a work of art, a piece of furniture, a musical instrument, or other item to their church. If you are considering such a gift, please know that St. Stephen’s vestry has a gifts policy which includes a review of whether any item(s) offered would be suitable for use here. Many factors will affect such a decision; if a gift is declined, it is not for lack of appreciation for the donor’s generosity or the quality of the item. Contact Fred Staley for more information.
