About Heidi
Heidi was born and raised in Ridgewood, Queens, New York, a proud first generation German-American. She grew up around her parish, St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, where she was on the basketball team, in the choir, Girl Scouts, folk group, and was seen in various theater productions on and off stage. Heidi loves to sing. Her mother said as early as the second grade that Heidi wanted to become a nurse, which she eventually did. She got her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, and landed her dream job to work as a pediatric nurse at Incarnation Children’s Center in New York City’s Washington Heights for the first foster home/hospice for children with HIV/AIDS. This was in 1989, before there was treatment available. This was a challenging and profoundly beautiful experience. After seven years Heidi heard the call to become a missionary in Africa, and has lived as a missionary for nearly three decades, serving in Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, and the last eight years in Jujuy, Argentina. Heidi continues to enjoy music, plays guitar and sings, loves to hunt for beauty with her camera, take long walks, and enjoys her time trying to bump into God every chance she gets.
