When weather affects office hours and events at St. Stephen’s Church, how will you know?
  • Be sure you are subscribed to the eSpirit. Not only do we send important weekly information through this Thursday morning newsletter, but it is also the way we contact you for special announcements, including office closings, cancellations or postponements. You can subscribe here.
  • Our social media channels are Facebook and Instagram.
  • The greeting on our office phone (804.288.2867) will also note a weather-related closing.
  • Visit this website.

We do not use local TV and radio to post cancellations, closings, or other adjustments to our schedule. If you see or hear a mention of events being affected at “St. Stephen’s Church” or “St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church,” please be aware that it refers to a different St. Stephen’s Church–either a different denomination or in a city or town other than Richmond.

Please remember, when the parish office is closed for inclement weather, the following will also be true:

  • The Café @ St. Stephen’s will be closed.
  • There will be no weekday Morning Prayer service.
  • The May Fair House will be closed.
  • No events or meetings will take place.
  • If you have a pastoral emergency, call the church office at 804.288.2867 and press 4.

Tuesday, December 9, 2025

Since our parking lot and walkways are clear, and the weather forecast calls for clear skies and higher temperatures on Wednesday, we plan to open on time tomorrow.

Events will go on as planned on Wednesday, including:

• Morning Prayer, 8:10 a.m. in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit
Wonderful Wednesday supper, 5:45-6:30 p.m. (the last one until January)
• Information session about the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy, 6:30 p.m. in the Small Fellowship Hall
The Longest Night Prayer Service, 7:30 p.m.

The Café @ St. Stephen’s and the May Fair House will be open.

Should changing conditions affect our plans, we will send another communication. Watch your email!

As always, use your best judgment about whether it is safe to come to St. Stephen’s Church from where you live, and exercise caution when you drive into our lot and walk on the sidewalks.

Monday, December 8, 2025

Due to the continuing snowfall and potentially hazardous driving conditions, the church office will close at 2:30 p.m. today. All subsequent afternoon and evening activities will be cancelled or moved online.

Tomorrow, barring further changes, we plan a delayed opening at 10:30 a.m. Morning Prayer and other church activities prior to the delayed start time will be cancelled. The Café @ St. Stephen’s and the May Fair House will both be closed tomorrow.

Our landscaping company will clear the parking lot and sidewalks this evening and tomorrow so that the campus is safe and ready for activity. Please keep an eye on your email and on our social media channels for any further updates or changes. Stay safe and stay warm!

Friday, December 5, 2025

The church, café, May Fair House and Dogwood Preschool are closed today. We will clear the parking lot and walkways today so that activities on Saturday and Sunday will go on as scheduled, including the farmers market, the café, the May Fair House, and Sunday services, formation, and other activities.
