Welcome to the new website of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
in Richmond, Virginia.

If you are accustomed to finding your way around our previous website, you may have questions about where to locate things on this new site. We believe you’ll find this site easier and more intuitive to navigate, and fun to explore. In the coming days, we’ll provide a virtual tour, a video designed to provide some guidance. In the meantime, you can read a list of FAQs–scroll down this page.

After watching the video, reading the FAQs, and/or spending some time on the site, if you have questions, send us an email or sign up for one of our help sessions.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

The navigation for this website is designed to be intuitive. Spend some time on the site and we think you will be able to find what you’re looking for. Take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the menus.

Menus

Notice that there are two menus at the top of the screen and one at the bottom.

  • The top menu is in the black bar.
  • The main menu is below it.
  • The footer menu is at the bottom of the screen when you scroll all the way down.

How do I reach a contact person for a particular ministry?

We no longer provide email addresses for parishioners, volunteers, or other non-staff contacts within or beyond St. Stephen’s Church. This is due to the prevalence of phishing and scams using this information. We continue to provide staff email addresses, and on this new site we also have a general contact form.

  • Staff are listed on the Staff page under About (top menu)
  • When you read about a particular ministry or event on the site, if a parishioner is listed as the contact, or if no specific contact is listed, use the CONTACT US form and we will direct your message to the appropriate person. This form is linked on many pages of the site and is also available in the footer menu that appears at the bottom of every page.

Where do I find livestreams of Sunday services?

On the home page (the landing page when you first open the site) click on the button that says “Watch.”
OR
Go to Worship & Music tab.
OR
Go to the top menu and click on “This Sunday.”

As on the former site, “This Sunday” also provides links to the service bulletins and the Spirit and other things related to Sundays at St. Stephen’s.

Where do I find the livestream for Morning Prayer?

Click on the WATCH button from the home page (the landing page that appears when you first navigate to the site).

Where do I find videos of services after they’ve occurred?

Visit our Vimeo page and use the search function to find the video. The date (including the month, day, and year) is a good search term to try.

Where do I find sermons or reflections given during services at St. Stephen’s?

On the main menu, click on the Worship & Music tab and select Sermons Archive. You will arrive at a page where sermons and reflections are listed in chronological order. To find a particular preacher or reflector, use Speaker filter. Click on the plus sign next to the word Speaker, and a list of past speakers will display. Click on the one you want, then click on the purple button that says “filter.” Messages by that person will then display.

How do I distinguish between the Celtic service and morning services?

If the title says “Reflection by…” it is from the Celtic service. If it says “Sermon by,” it is from a morning service.

How do I find an older sermon or reflection?

Sermons, reflections, and forum talks given before we began livestreaming services and the Sunday Forum are not available on the website. Prior to livestreaming, we recorded audio only, and we do not have all of these files. If we do still have a sermon or reflection you want, and you know the DATE (month, day, year) and the NAME of the person speaking, it may be possible for us to find it in our archives.

Where do I find information about Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, or Funerals?

Under About, go to Baptism and Other Sacramental Rites.

Where do I find the staff or the vestry?

Go to the top menu (the black bar) and look under the “About” tab.

How do I make a pledge or a gift?

There are two ways to reach the giving section of the site: from the top line menu, on the far right, and from the footer menu, where there is a purple button that says GIVE.

The give tab at the top of the page offers links to giving, flower memorials, other gifts, and the Legacy Society (planned giving).

If you are making a pledge payment or other gift or payment, the site will connect you to Access ACS, our online giving platform. This is the same platform we have been using for many years. This is another item that will change once our new CHMS is in place.

What is the ‘Resources’ section?

A broad array of items can be found in this tab, including Forum talks, articles and other resources addressing a particular issue such as the war in the Holy Land, vestry minutes, archives of the Weekly Bible Study, and more. This section can be sorted and filtered according to what you are seeking. This section is still in a development phase and we’ll add to it over time.

Where is the Weekly Bible Study guide?

Earlier in 2024, the clergy made the decision to pause the distribution of these weekly guides while we reassess where to place staff resources. Some Emmaus Groups as well as study groups from other churches have asked to use the guides already produced. You can find these archived in the Resources section (found in the top menu).

The calendar looks different…

The calendar is formatted differently from the calendar on our old site. The most exciting feature is the ability to sort and filter for categories you’re particularly interested in. That said, this function will change once our new Church Management System (CHMS) is in place and integrated into the new site. When that occurs, the calendar will flow from the CHMS.

Search

If you don’t find what you want right away, remember to try the SEARCH function!

Have a different question?

As people use the site and pose their questions, we may find that more questions become “frequently asked,” and we’ll add them to this page. Do you have a question we have not answered? Contact us!
